For the past few weeks, it seems like I have been spending all my time working on the new screenplay or shooting comedy videos. It’s all good and fun but sometimes you need to make time to have a few drinks and talk to a pretty girl for a few hours. That’s how I ended up at Nomad (1211 Corona Dr, Austin) which is a fairly new bar in town. I think it sprung up while I was out wandering the country.
Nomad is tucked inconspicuously into a strip mall behind the Target on Cameron Road. You’ll have to really look for it, but once you find it, I think you’ll agree it was worth it. The interior is spacious and sleek with the bar dominating the center of the room. There are quite a few tables and chairs and even couches. A patio area wraps around one side and there is a tiny game room with darts, a foosball table and a tabletop Pac-Man game.
The overall feel is a mixture of a lounge, coffeehouse and neighborhood bar. The drinks are good, the servers are friendly and the vibe is very laid back.
The cocktails gradually gave way to pints of Fireman’s #4 as the hours slipped away…
UPDATE: I’ve since been back a couple of times and I like it just as much if not more. I discovered that they have food. So far, I’ve only tried a Panini. Really good.
