What’s up.

My mailbox is filling up with e-mails expressing confusion about where I am and what I am doing, so I guess an explanatory blog post is in order. Life is very strange these days. I have pretty much dismantled every stable element in my life in order to chase after a vision that may or may not be insane.

Right now, I’m sitting in an R.V. in Oklahoma City. The weather is beautiful and the windows are open. I’m taking a break from the first draft of the new screenplay which I hope to have finished by the end of the week. The last few weeks have been filled with a lot of commercial work which I have been doing at Rockhouse Cinema - which explains why I am in OKC and why I am in an R.V. right now.

The R.V. (in addition to occasional recreational uses) will soon be called into service on the new film as both an on-screen “character” and a mobile command center. This means we will have air conditioning, a restroom, a kitchen and a place to change clothes while we are out in the middle of nowhere. I’ve never really spent much time around R.V.s but I have to admit that it’s pretty pimp.

The last few weeks have been spent shooting, editing and even running live sound for the OKC Arts Festival. In between those gigs, I have been typing… typing… typing…

For the past few months, I have been nursing along an ancient G3 Powerbook. By nursing along, I mean that it overheats and required frequent rebooting. Also, the “i” key was in bad shape and had to be hit really hard to actually make an “i.” The computer was donated to the cause and i truly appreciated it. But last week, I apparently typed too long and too hard. I left the room for a few minutes and came back to the smell of burning plastic. Sayonara, Blackie.

Now I am working on a white MacBook and I am loving it. After really struggling with the old computer just to keep it running, it’s amazing how fast and smooth the new one is. I’m also experimenting with Scrivener - a writing app I discovered recently. Scrivener has a cool feature that allows you to totally black out the screen - except for the words you’re typing. It’s another way to minimize distractions.

So that’s it. I feel kind of cut off and isolated right now, but I also know that this is the calm before the storm. This week we interview publicists, go over details with the attorney, start location scouting and hopefully will be making some official announcements. Next month we’ll be shooting an experimental short film on 35mm film that is unlike anything I have directed so far. Early summer, we’ll start production on UNTITLED 2008. All I can say right now is that it’s an old-school horror movie that is going to rock your face off.
