We have the shower curtain about a foot in front of the lights. So far nothing has caught on fire or melted.

Regarding the shower curtain, is there a chance the lights would melt a hole in it? I've been wanting to use that same set up but I'm always afraid I'm gonna catch the curtain on fire.

My site is dedicated to this kind of Digital Video DIY stuff. All of my podcasts are shot with this sort of setup and you are right it does not have to cost much to get Pro looking shots. One thing I do is use a 250 watt light in a standard light fixture (they look like a standard bulb or a bulb that is a little taller but the same shape as a standard bulb. These come in differing color temperatures so you can do things like have the right color of light to add a fill light outdoors or with a different lamp you can shoot with a halogen. So you get a great fill light for the cost of the fixture and the bulb(s)

Incase I can put a link in the comments look below this line, if there are two links it worked if not then hopfully Chris will add them back...

You can find these on amazon and at B&H photo for around $5.00 and cam make an ok light source awesome. Now before I get hacked because 'this is too high a wattage for most if not all fixtures' you are right. Fixtures are not rated for this as most are for 150watt max. But if you are using them for a short period of time like an hour or less and they are well supervised there is little risk.

Chris, would I be able to get you to do a guest post on my blog? I would do one in exchange if that interests you.

The shower curtain works amazingly well. It's also cheap and easy to transport. I'd be interested to hear how the door screen works, though!
